HOT MODERN GLAM PT. 4 - KITCHEN/BREAKFAST NOOK

We all know that the kitchen is the heart of the home and it was no different in this project. This kitchen was cluttered and honestly dated. My client told me she heard a rumor that some high school students built the cabinets during their summer vacation. I certainly hope that wasn’t the case, but it didn't seem too far fetched lol. Before we discuss the inspiration, let’s look at where we started.

The goal was to design a warm and inviting (are you catching the theme of the home yet?!), and white wasn’t a desired color for the space at all. Originally, my client wanted to paint the cabinets urbane bronze (our inspiration), her favorite color by Sherwin Williams. If you’re unfamiliar with it, think of a beautiful, deep, rich brown hue. Two of the nook walls are full of windows, and it would a have plenty of light, but I still didn’t want the space to be too heavy or dark. We reserved that color to use in other spaces of the home…one which you’ve already seen on the living room trim accent wall. Instead, I opted for a softer hue, borderline gray, but just enough to see the brown tones.

Once the cabinet color was chosen, we decided on the trim style. She already had a shaker style in her primary bathroom, and for the sake of continuity, we kept it the same for the kitchen. I found a beautiful marble backsplash with gold accent trim throughout and I thought it would be the perfect complement to our cabinet color. The counter stone selected was also a beautifully, busy marble with warm veining. She knew she wanted a farmhouse sink, and I let her have it! Every other item followed suit and came easily after those first few crucial selections. Furnishings were also selected and the final thing we needed was the color for the walls. Instead of white, I did a creamy shade that didn’t fight our gray walls throughout the rest of the house.

With items approved and ordered, we were able to begin the demo. We removed the soffit above the cabinets so we could extend them to the ceiling. We made use of awkward corner space by installing a lazy susan and corner cabinet above. We added an overhang on the island that accommodated three stools and upgraded all appliances (except the fridge which was new). You can check out more before and after images below. Tell me your favorite part of this design and renovation in the comments!
