Hi! I’m Brittany. I run a boutique interior design firm that’s been serving clients in the Dallas, Texas area since 2016. Rather than just listing off facts, I’d like to share a brief story about one of my most meaningful and fulfilling projects to give you a better sense of who I am and what matters to me.
Recently, I had a client who was going through a transitional period and was about to be living alone for the first time in her life. She hired a contractor to remodel her house for this new chapter. Rather than listen, the contractor did most of the talking and explained what the client wanted, not being feasible or affordable for her. Fast forward six months and the contractor had only completed 50% of the work and left my client’s home in chaos.
At this point, she reached out to me for my services. By this time, it was August and the holidays were fastly approaching. My client wanted more than anything to have her children visit for Thanksgiving. With the way things had gone, this seemed impossible and she was in shock. The contractor kept promising her he would finish, but offered very little transparency. He kept blaming the supply chain and backorders without offering any solutions or workarounds. Even when I arrived, the floors were still tarped off, the walls were completely unfinished, and she hadn’t been able to use her primary bathroom for six months!
My client was more than ready for a change and I immediately got to work. She wanted pink cabinets in the laundry room. She got them. She wanted warmer colors throughout the house. Done. I took the time to not only talk, but I really listened to her and found out she suffered from chronic migraines. We outfitted her home with soft mood lighting and window treatments that could block out light on the days when she needed it.
By mid-November, her entire home renovation was complete with everything (including the pink cabinets) working cohesively. The space not only reflected the person that she was, but also softened the trauma of her migraines. Her home is now a tremendous source of pride and she is able to enjoy it with her family. See Indian Hills Project for photos. On a core level, this is why I love my job. It’s important to design visually appealing and beautiful spaces, but it’s equally important to me that my clients’ homes bring more peace to their lives and promote self-care.
In many ways, life can be more hectic than we think and I believe everyone deserves their own personal sanctuary for comfort and restoration. Done waiting another minute for yours?
